Columbus, Ohio

Ohio has one of the lowest unemployment numbers in the US and the monthly rent is one of the most affordable. The top employers here include the federal government, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Ohio State University and JP Morgan Chase. However, it is important to note that residents here earn less than the national median income.

Austin, Texas

The Texas capital has a low unemployment rate and the city is one that thrives on manufacturing, life sciences and clean energy. Its technology scene has earned it the name “Silicon Hills”. The major employers here include the University of Texas in Austin, the Seton Healthcare Family. However, the average rent here is higher than all the others on this list at $1,008. This could be attributed to the technology front here.

Denver, Colorado

Residents here also make one of the highest median salaries in the US. The city’s employers include the state and local governments, USDA National Finance Centre, Denver Health and United Airlines.
