Optimize Your Office Space for Better Employee Performance

Productivity can be influenced by several factors. It may depend on your motivation, your mood on that specific day, or even your surroundings. Many people choose a place to work from, like an office, library, or a café. They do this because they feel most comfortable and motivated in these places.

When building your company, you should think about the office space where your employees would spend most of their days. Most certainly, they would want to be somewhere where they feel pleasant and inspired.

When at the office, employees should feel good about working and completing tasks, without having the desire to get out of there as soon as possible. So, if you want to provide them with this kind of environment, take a note or two from the following suggestions. These points will give you an idea about what to do, how and why.

    1. Go Big and Open Plan

Give your employees room to move and breathe freely. Each individual should be given a sizeable space where they can feel comfortable. Moreover, the whole office should be spacious. For example, you can divide it into the working area, the lounge area, and a little kitchen corner – you are going for an open plan office after all. This type of office design has its perks, as all the employees get to interact with each other.

Because of this, their productivity will rise to a new level. Having someone next to you allows for easier consultation and advice, which can only be helpful, especially if two or more people are working on the same project.

    2. Go minimal

When designing your office, you should lean towards a more minimal design. This will minimize the clutter, and allow for more breathing room. Additionally, equip your office with only what’s necessary. Do not buy something that has no real purpose.

You can add décor, of course, just don’t overdo it. It is best to remove anything that is distracting and attention-grabbing. The point is to keep your employees focused on the task at hand, and not something irrelevant.

    3. Take safety precautions

These precautions should be taken from the very start. As time goes by, you should begin scheduling regular inspections and checkups for everything from water pipes, heaters, cords, the whole shebang. In case something starts falling apart, your employees won’t feel safe. They will spend every moment looking behind their back, waiting for something bad to happen.

Having a damage-proof office will save you from possible fire and water hazards. You surely wouldn’t want to be dealing with water damage restoration, for example, on top of having to lead an entire company. These kinds of distractions would only harm your employees and their performance.

    4. Choose the right colours and lightning

It is a well known fact that colours influence our mood, especially if we spend a lot of time in one specific environment. So, when choosing the colours of the walls, go for happier, vibrant tones. Something like yellow or orange would be great. These colours provoke creativity and warmth. But if you want to invoke relaxation, go for green or blue.

In addition to this, make sure the space has enough light, both natural and artificial. It is best to go for a medium setting; not too bright, not too dim. You should make it look, well, enjoyable, not gloomy and depressing.

If you can, consult with your employees. See what works best for them. For example, you could conduct a survey and check their preferences. Collaborating with them would give the best possible results and everyone would be happy with the results. You will get satisfied employees, and they will have an awesome work environment.
