AUGSBURG, GERMANY (PRWEB) OCTOBER 20, 2015
Genetic ID, a leader in the development of DNA-based technologies for food safety and authenticity testing, has appointed Christoph Wiemer to lead its European branch as managing director, effective October 1, 2015. Mr. Wiemer replaces Bill Thompson, CEO of Genetic ID EU, who will return to the U.S. to take the position of executive director, Key Account Program, for the Global ID Group. Global ID Group is the parent company of Genetic ID, CERT ID, and FoodChain ID.
Mr. Thompson, who has been with Genetic ID for 16 years, was largely responsible for developing Genetic ID’s Global Laboratory Alliance, a worldwide network of laboratories which employ the company’s patented technologies, and was instrumental in establishing Genetic ID as a global brand in GMO testing. Prior, Mr. Thompson had managed Genetic ID’s North American operations and served as Co-CEO of Genetic ID North America (NA). Since 2009, he has led the Augsburg, Germany-based EU division to continued growth, expanding services throughout the European market and into India.
In his new role, Mr. Thompson will work to broaden the scope of the Key Account Program, which provides an integrated portfolio of food safety/quality services in the areas of testing, certification, training, and consulting.
“I am excited to be spearheading this initiative due to its great potential,” said Mr. Thompson. “Building upon our 19-year record of excellence in testing and certification, this program integrates a number of food safety and food quality solutions, giving our clients access to even more essential services.”
In addition, on October 1, Christoph Wiemer began work at Genetic ID EU as managing director. Prior, during a 15-year career in the food and feed industry, Mr. Wiemer held leadership roles at several international TIC companies including TUV Rheinland Group, Bureau Veritas CPS Deutschland GmbH, SAI Global GmbH and national food labs (e.g., Institut Kirchhoff Berlin GmbH, Planton GmbH).
Mr. Wiemer, an expert in testing, inspection, and certification services, brings to Genetic ID EU extensive relationships in the national and international food and feed industry.
“My initial focus will be on expanding our global footprint through partnerships, acquisitions and new services, building upon many years of record growth under Bill Thompson’s leadership,” said Mr. Wiemer. “I will be working to continue our expansion through innovative, market-driven solutions and a comprehensive and evolving portfolio of premium services designed to meet not only current customer needs but foresee incipient market trends.”
Genetic ID EU serves customers in more than 50 countries. In addition to its comprehensive GMO testing services, the company offers testing in the areas of food authenticity, animal speciation, and allergen content, as well as contract research services.
