WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) OCTOBER 21, 2015
As students start the college application process, College Summit announces the launch of in-school programming for ScholarJob, an innovative collaboration between some of America’s largest employers, including AT&T, Deloitte, Mutual of America, and Walmart, and College Summit to increase the number of low-income students getting into and through college.
The ScholarJob initiative includes a career exploration curriculum; an online portal connecting students with the stories and career pathways of ScholarJob company employees; and career readiness events featuring ScholarJob company employee volunteers throughout the school year.
“By 2020, 65% of jobs in America will require a Bachelor’s degree or higher, yet too many young people don’t believe that educational success will result in a real job and a better way of life,” said Keith Frome, CEO of College Summit. “ScholarJob is all about harnessing the authentic voices that can break through to turn that belief around.”
College Summit’s 140 partner high schools have received a curated career exploration curriculum that helps students research and identify which career opportunities match their interests; sketch a potential career path that includes major educational and professional milestones; prepare a resume; and practice for job interviews. ScholarJob also provides students with downloadable career resources from talent and human resource departments at participating companies.
Through a partnership with Roadtrip Nation’s “Share Your Road,” an interactive online platform that helps career-seekers connect to real-world professionals, employees from AT&T, Deloitte, Mutual of America, and Walmart are sharing with College Summit’s low-income students their own stories of rising above difficult circumstances to succeed professionally. Through these portals, ScholarJob company employees also provide the students with the concrete steps they need to take, such as coursework and internships, to realize the career they desire.
Additionally, College Summit is hosting a series of four volunteer engagement events, called “Peer2Pro Days,” to promote career readiness. ScholarJob company employees will provide professional advice and best practices to College Summit students and alumni through career coaching, mock interviews, and facilitated panel discussions. Four events are scheduled for New York, NY, Washington D.C., Tulsa, OK, and Miami, FL.
