McKenna Long Releases Annual Review of Labor Law Issues in the United States
Labor Relations Today: Labor Law 2014 Year in Review analyzes key developments of past year in traditional labor law – including controversial NLRB rulings and Supreme Court’s historic Noel Canning decision
NEW YORK and ATLANTA, Jan. 23 – The state of U.S. labor relations – contentious, political and constantly evolving with new case law and regulatory rulemaking – is center stage in the fourth annual edition of Labor Relations Today: Labor Law 2014 Year in Review, issued by McKenna Long & Aldridge.
The 2014 Year in Review, a desktop reference of 28 pages, offers a deep dive into recent U.S. labor law developments geared for in-house counsel, labor relations professionals and human resources departments at companies and organizations nationally. It’s produced by labor and employment lawyers at McKenna Long, drawing from the firm’s respected blog Labor Relations Today: http://www.laborrelationstoday.com/.
The new review includes an analysis of the closely-watched U.S. Supreme Court ruling this past year known as Noel Canning, in which the High Court ruled that recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) made by President Obama were unconstitutional. McKenna Long also examines the NLRB’s efforts to favor union organizing through expediting the election process, as well as the Board’s aggressive expansion of union and employee protections, along with recent decisions limiting the scope of management powers.
According to Richard Hankins<http://www.mckennalong.com/professionals-RichardHankins.html>, chair of McKenna Long's Labor & Employment practice, the report pinpoints several issues to watch in 2015.
“Many of the NLRB’s controversial holdings this past year came about because of its willingness to casually put aside decades of decisions to the contrary in pursuit of its policy goals,” he said. “The partisan pendulum swing from administration to administration is certain to complicate the setting of expectations by employers, employees and unions alike in the year ahead.”
