    Do You Make Your New Hires Feel Like ‘Aliens’?


    Employee on-boarding process is an ever-going activity in an organization. You are very familiar with process and in a habit of seeing a new face every day in office. But the same is not true for that new face. You are familiar but he/she is not!

    Landing in a new office with new job is exciting, but usually the new hires feel like they have entered an alien planet with people who look like some different species you have never come across before.

    From physical set-up to cultural environment to even language, a new hire will find everything strange and new and will take its own sweet time to get absorbed in it.

    But, this all new enthusiasm and excitement may vanish if you don’t treat these new hires properly. In fact, keeping them excited is highly critical during first few months as maximum turnovers take place within first 2 months from the start of the job. If you follow some easy steps and have answers for their basic questions, you can give a smooth launching pad to these new comers helping them land correctly on their new job roles.

    Welcome them Gracefully:


    Don’t behave like stout senior bullying new employees. Try to induct them into the organization, let them meet their co-workers, interact and understand different company policies. This will give them a vision about how they have to perform and give results. If you make it a company ritual, then your new employees will stay for long and this will also result in establishing a more friendly work environment.


    Introduce them to the Working Style:

    No matter how much experienced a newcomer is, every individual takes time to adapt to new place and learn the changed working style. No one can get up and running and thus, need a right mentor or guide or a buddy who can help them get acquainted with the working culture and become productive quickly.

    Convey Your Expectations & Business Goals Clearly:

    Of course, you must not pressurize the employee on his first day to office by giving his targets for the next 6 months or handing over piles of work to him. But, you must not make them feel so easy and comfortable that they get used to that leisure at work. They must know exactly what they are here for and what will be their KRA (Key Result Area). Moreover, they should know how they can contribute towards company’s goals and objectives.
