The Health Care Reform Act has changed many things, including that a dependent child can be covered under their parent’s group health plan until age 26, assuming the plan covers dependent children.
This holds true regardless of:
Tax dependency
Residency
Student status
Marital status
Access to other group coverage
If both parents cover the dependent under their employer’s group health plan, which plan would be the first to pay the claims? The primary payer pays first and the remainder would be left for the secondary payer. There are several different ways the primary and secondary payers can be determined.
