Think about the last time you were a student in any type of instructional delivery. Were you engaged in the experience?
Quantifying 'engagement' is something that all training professionals struggle with. The results of this research, being conducted by an InSync colleague as part of his doctoral studies, will be useful to our entire industry.
This survey is composed of 24 questions meant to collect data about your memories and impressions from a recent in-person or virtual educational/virtual training delivery/program in which you were a student. This survey is part of an effort to begin defining “learner engagement” in the context of learning environment and develop a scale with which to measure it. The survey will ask you to recall memories and impressions of the instructor/facilitator, the content, and your classmates.
Your participation in this study will require completing a short online survey. This should take approximately 5-10 minutes of your time. Your participation will be anonymous and you will not be contacted again in the future.
As with any research, more data means better results; so sharing with as many colleagues as possible (via email or any of your social media channels) would be appreciated.

We are conducting research relating to “learner engagement” – that often-used, rarely defined term for all things that keep a learner in the program. The research is being conducted by a doctoral student at the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education. He has developed a model of engagement that is very closely aligned with that of “employee engagement” (see the most recent Gallup Employee Engagement “State of the Workplace” report here: http://www.gallup.com/strategicconsulting/163007/state-american-workplace.aspx). We’re looking for 200 practitioners in the field to take a 24 item survey. Participants should have been in an instructional delivery environment as a learner in the past 12 months. Participation is (of course) voluntary and no identifying information will be collected.
