I spent twenty five years of my career developing and managing community based charities. Being CEO was of such organisations can be a lonely place - as leadership positions often are - especially when those around you have no comprehension of concepts such as, investment for growth and deferred gratification. I suppose it was in this environment that I honed my negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
In my life I have always harboured a personal fascination for the great outdoors; and Canada remains high on my agenda as a place to go to further exercise my passion for mountains, rivers and sea. Indeed, the charities that I spoke of were geared to enhance the lives of people from deprived background by involving them in outdoor experiences.
Ultimately, these organisations were subsumed into Local Authority control and I spent several years in a senior management role in a local government setting before accepting an early retirement offer. I am now free to enjoy outdoor activities whenever I chose, but I equally relish and enjoy opportunities to use my professional knowledge to help and support others in difficult management and executive roles.
