Maintaining corporate culture should be fun. As a company grows it actually creates even more opportunities to express itself than when it was smaller. Sometimes those opportunities come in very unique ways. Recently Benefitfocus had one of those opportunities.
A few weeks ago we had “Bring Your Dog to Work Day”. It was an amazing experience to witness and be a part of. Over 100 associates brought their dogs to work. It was really fun to watch the dogs and people interact and the pride associates took in their pets. We had activities and contests- it was an extremely fun day at Benefitfocus.
It is important for all companies to continue to maintain an open and creative culture. This particular idea was a grass roots idea, something organic. Companies often respond to such organic culture with reasons why something should not be done. In our case, we purposefully listen for these types of ideas and work to bring them to life.
Embracing both the uniqueness and collective creativity of our associates is a key part of our culture. We do not take it for granted. We are always looking for new and innovative ways for our associates to express themselves. Sometimes that comes in the form of dogs walking through our buildings and "meeting" each other. I am thankful that we are such a creative place to be. http://shawnjenkins.benefitfocus.com/2013/11/26/bring-your-dog-work-day
