Let's face it, the talent pool is shrinking, it is getting harder and harder to attract top talent and just as challenging to keep our top talent motivated. Ceridian recently conducted their Pulse of Talent Survey and have uncovered some interesting findingsabout what motivates Boomers, Gen Y and Gen X employees.
With boomers staying longer in the workforce and Gen X and Gen Y climbing the corporate ladder, new research shows the big impact these generational gaps have when it comes to workplace engagement.
Some key insights include:
1) Job rewards are the most important engagement driver for U.S. employees as a whole; sixty-four percent of respondents prefer non-monetary rewards, especially generation Y (70 percent)
2) Employers risk losing top talent if expectations on the part of employer and employee are not clearly communicated or met; nearly 40 percent of American workers don’t have a formal performance review
3) Employers need to understand job motivations and what makes a job rewarding in order to ensure employee commitment and overall retention
According to Sara Hill, Ceridian’s chief human resources officer, “rapid technological changes, coupled with a workforce that spans four generations means that rewards, communication and employee motivation is more complicated than ever before. Rather than risk losing a good employee and potential future leader, employers need to remain flexible and evolve their best practices in these areas in order to meet the current needs and desires of their most valuable asset – their employees.”
