Bernie Nagle has been a student of “engagement” in the workplace for nearly 40 years, primarily in manufacturing environments, either as an executive or as a consultant. Nagle also coined the term "altrupreneur" as one who conducts the affairs of an enterprise with conspicuous regard for the welfare of others, builds communities that produce value for all the organization's stakeholders.
He is coauthor of the book, Leveraging People and Profit: The Hard Work of Soft Management and a new servant leadership-based approach to management that includes the following advice:
- Be humble enough to “not know”
- Act with integrity, above all
- Everyone has value; make the effort to find it
- Meet others where they are
- Allow others to try, and fail. Then help them learn from it
- Recognize and reward effort as well as accomplishment
- In the beginning - seek input; in the end - say thank you
