Typically, Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) are the last step prior to discharge. In evaluating whether a PIP is appropriate, please understand that it is often difficult to spell out measurable expectations and be able to explain the means of measurement. Therefore, it is a good idea to ask the following questions:
1. Are you really willing to give the employee another genuine chance?
2. Will the employee willingly buy into a plan’s objectives?
3. Is there some significant likelihood of success?
