You have a mentor. Now what? Having a mentor can help you progress your career, find new opportunities, new network and a sounding board. Following are few tips which can help you while communicating with your mentor.
1. Be proactive and contact your mentor first. It is easy to contact a mentor on Mutual Force platform. Just post a message to the mentor after you login. Mentors are not expected to make the initial contact. Remember that you need the mentor more than the mentor needs you. It is advisable to be in constant contact with your mentor. We recommend atleast once every 2 weeks.
2. Introduce yourself first time and talk about any common things you have with your mentor. Read the mentor profile well before introducing yourself. You can do this from find mentor menu after you login to Mutual Force.
3. Your mentor is a wealth of information based on his/ her experience and knowledge gained through the years. Utilize it in the best possible way. It can help you find new network and open new opportunities.
4. Show your mentor that you are really interested in the mentoring program.
5. If a mentor assigns you a task, make sure to finish it on time.
6. Don’t be late if a time is set for a video chat.
7. Mentoring is a not a one way relationship. Mentors can also benefit from mentees expertise in some areas.
8. Not all mentors may suit a mentee. Contact your program admin in case of issues.
Thank you and good luck!
