HRMS Industry Trends Part 3: Social Media
    Aislin Miller
Part 3 of our HR industry trends series is a popular topic, especially lately with the Facebook IPO. We’re experiencing social media first hand with Nortek Solutions' foray into the world of Twitter. If you’re on Twitter we’d love to hear from you!

    Sharing knowledge will enhance performance

Facebook. Twitter. LinkedIn. The “big three” have worked their way into almost everything as a powerful cross-media marketing tool for small and large organizations alike. “Big three”-inspired social media tools are not just selling products and connecting individuals with great job opportunities; according to McKinsey Global Institute (Nov 2011), they are also transforming business processes and improving performance.

In a recent study by APCO Worldwide and Gagen MacDonald, 60% of employees believed the utilization of Internal Social Media (ISM) in the workplace demonstrated company innovation. Employee engagement and retention rates were far higher for companies using ISM. Those employees were also far more likely to recommend their company’s products and services to others, purchase stock in their company and support government policy than employees in companies that were not using ISM.

ISM = Engaged Employees = Successful Organizations

ISM = engaged employees = successful organizations? It appears (when it is done well) ISM is successfully bridging the gap between upper management and employees by allowing access to knowledge and company policies, encouraging communication across all levels of the organization, and reiterating company values. Encouraging communication through shared content and authentic, open relationships with company leaders produces beneficial results.

So what does this mean to you? If you are investigating how ISM might help your business, Nortek People Management Software is absorbing the popular trend of multi-media collaboration and translating it to the work environment. Our software provides a knowledge-centric community that encourages employees to contribute documents, articles and websites as well as to engage each other in work-related discussion. This is only a facet of everything Nortek can do for you. We’d love to give you your own demonstration.
