Why should you hire an older worker?
1) They cost less. Older workers in their 50s and 60s (and late 40s) crave flexibility. They are not so interested in climbing the corporate ladder and are willing to work part-time and flex hours so that they can travel, or pursue hobbies and other interests.
2) They have leadership skills. Younger workers may be more tech savvy, but technology isn't everything. Businesses need workers with leadership skills.
3) They can manage themselves better than younger workers. They tend to have lower stress levels and control their emotions more. Because they can manage themselves, they don't need constant reassurance about their work. They know their value and are more confident in their abilities.
4) They have more life experience and so are more willing to learn and are more loyal. We all need to learn something new every 5 years or so, and older workers have the lowest turnover rate among the different work groups. They can hit the ground running as they have seen more situations.
