    A) INTRODUCTION

    4.1 This chapter defines the job descriptions and person specifications recommended for a particular job. Job descriptions and job specifications for the benchmark positions are given at Annexure D.

    4.2 Job descriptions provide direction to the incumbent in carrying out their tasks within known parameters, so that the collective effort of groups of people leads to successful achievement of overall organizational objectives. It is important that incumbents are given a written mandate of their job delineating the overall purpose of the job, their activities and tasks and lines of reporting. More specifically, following are included in the Job Description.

    4.3 It should be made known to the incumbent the reason for the existence of a certain job position. The incumbent can then appreciate the overall objective of the position and conduct his/her matters within AL-IKHWANs overall frame. Therefore, the core purpose of the job is explained in the beginning of the job description.

    Nature and Scope of the Position

    4.4 An incumbent should be provided unambiguous information about two aspects of organizational reporting. First, it should be clear as to who is his/her immediate superior – the position to whom the incumbent formally resorts to for guidance, direction and towards whom he/she feels accountable. Secondly, the incumbent should know which positions are accountable to him/her and to whom he/she is expected to provide guidance and direction and hold accountable. These two aspects are clearly mentioned in the job description.

    4.5 It is not the objective to make an exhaustive list of tasks/functions for the position but nonetheless, most of the functions expected to be fulfilled by a position should be listed to enable the incumbent to carry on with the demands of the position. With that view, functions to be carried out by a position are explained so that in most of the cases the incumbent remains clear about what is expected of him/her in that position.

    4.6 Revision to the job descriptions and specifications is authorized by the Chief Executive Officer. The Head of Human Resource and Administrative function is assigned the responsibility for actually effecting the authorized revisions related to such updating. Amendments to job descriptions will be made, from time to time, by authority declared competent for the purpose.
