Bureau of Labor Statistics Offers Three Webinars on Compensation in March

<p>The <a href="http://www.bls.gov" target="_blank">U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics </a>is offering three complimentary webinars during the month of March on current compensation issues. Those interested in registering for any of these webinars may do so by clicking on the session title.</p>
<p> <a href="https://crm.hr.com/en/webcasts_events/webcasts/upcoming_webcasts/morphing-of-employment-based-retirement-benefits-b_gyq1e2g9.html" target="_blank"><b>“The Morphing of Retirement Benefits—BLS Data Speak”</b></a> will be offered by Bill Wiatrowski, BLS’s Associate Commissioner for the Office of Compensation and Working Conditions on Wednesday, March 14th at 11:00 a.m. EDT. This presentation uses retirement data from BLS’s annual survey of employee benefits. Attendees will learn how retirement plans are changing and will be able to compare their plans to these latest trends.</p>
<p> <a href="https://crm.hr.com/en/webcasts_events/virtual_events/upcoming_virtual_events/compensation_gtq44wrk.html" target="_blank"><b>“Zooming In On Compensation Data—A guide to BLS data for Human Resources Professionals”</b></a> will be offered by Jacqueline Michael-Midkiff, BLS’s Economic Analysis and Information Chief for the Mountain-Plains Information Office on Monday, March 19th at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Attendees to this webinar will learn how BLS data can help them in their role as wage and salary administrator, benefits administrator, wage and contract administrator, workforce projection planner, or even as a BLS survey participant.</p>
<p> <a href="https://crm.hr.com/en/webcasts_events/virtual_events/upcoming_virtual_events/compensation_gtq44wrk.html" target="_blank"><b>“Tracking Wage Changes—Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics”</b> </a>will be presented by Bill Wiatrowski, BLS’s Associate Commissioner for the Office of Compensation and Working Conditions on Tuesday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Attendees to this presentation will learn how BLS data document the deceleration in wage and salary growth; observe the variations in wage trends by industry, occupation, and other characteristics; and learn how to use these data to compare their current or proposed wage and salary increases to those in their industry, location, or other characteristics of interest. This presentation uses data from the Employment Cost Index (ECI) and Employer Costs for Employee Compensation (ECEC).</p>

<p> The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor is the principal federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate essential economic information to support public and private decision-making. As an independent statistical agency, BLS serves its diverse user communities by providing products and services that are objective, timely, accurate, and relevant.</p>
<p> <b>About the National Compensation Survey</b></p>
<p> The <a href="http://www.bls.gov/ncs" target="_blank">National Compensation Survey </a>is an on-going comprehensive employer-based survey of approximately 10,800 establishments conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. NCS is an umbrella program that produces data on several topics including benefits, wages, and compensation cost trends. One of its outputs—the Employment Cost Index (ECI) — is a principal federal economic indicator. The ECI measures the percent change in the cost of wages and benefits. Another output is the Employer Costs for Employee Compensation (ECEC). The ECEC provides costs for wages and individual benefits on a cost per hour worked basis. In addition to the reports and websites mentioned in this release, the Compensation and Working Conditions Online Journal contains short articles on various compensation topics including health and retirement benefits. Another publication, Program Perspectives, focuses on one benefit topic per issue.</p>
