Some hiring companies are bypassing resumes, and instead are asking for a candidate’s link to their Web presence on social media, such as Twitter, or for them to submit a short video on why they are interested in the job position.
According to the companies that use this hiring method, they yield better quality candidates this way vs. a resume that does not provide much depth or give the full picture on a candidate.
Is this the wave of the future?
More and more companies are interested in finding out what a candidate is like, what they are like to work with, how they think, and whether they would fit into the company’s culture. So they have been using unconventional methods for screening candidates.
For example, one bumper sticker company uses online surveys to screen candidates, with questions tailored to the specific position. On their last posting for an illustrator position, they asked applicants what their ideal dream job is, and what is the best job they have ever had. According to this company, in the past they had received way too many resumes from unqualified people, and that they have had great success using online surveys.
But still, at the end of the day, most companies ask for resumes.

HR Managers need to let numbers do the talking where it makes sense, and personality / attitude for the rest.
Recommendations and a good resume will be here a long time. Social media offers unreliable information.
