Attorney Lester Rosen, a noted safe hiring expert and President of Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present a live webcast titled ‘The Top Ten Trends for Background Checks in 2011 – What Every Employer Needs to Know’ on Monday, June 13 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM ET at the Online Staffing and Sourcing Virtual Conference presented by the Institute for Human Resources (IHR), the certification and accreditation arm of HR.com.
During the hour long webcast, Rosen will review the top ten trends for background checks in 2011, including the use of social network sites for screening, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) approach to the use of criminal records and credit reports, international background screening, resume fraud, off shoring of personal data, and tools to protect against workplace violence. To register for the event, visit the IHR Online Staffing and Sourcing Virtual Conference page at HR.com.
“Firms cannot afford to be sidetracked by employee problems such as workplace violence, theft, false resumes, embezzlement, harassment, or trumped-up injury claims,”says Rosen, the author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ the first comprehensive guide to employment screening, and ‘The Safe Hiring Audit.’ “Employers can be the subject of lawsuits for negligent hiring if they hire someone that they should have known, through the exercise of due diligence, was dangerous, unfit, dishonest, or unqualified.”
In 1997, Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources (ESR) in the San Francisco area and the company is accredited by The National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), a trade organization for the background screening industry. Rosen is also a frequent presenter nationwide for the ‘ESR Speaks’ background check speaking and training program. For information about ‘ESR Speaks,’ click here.
“Employers have long recognized that conducting due diligence on new hires is a mission critical task,” Rosen adds. “They must learn legally complaint best practices to keep a business productive and out of court and what steps to take immediately to avoid a bad hire.”
