Amid continuing coverage of the tech hiring wars and the IT talent shortage in Silicon Valley and New York City, Silicon Valley employers and staffing agencies posted over 30,000 online job ads in May, up almost 29% compared to the May 2010. Hiring demand has now grown 117% over its 4-year low in February 2009.

Hiring Demand by Silicon Valley (San Jose Metro Area) Employers/Staffing Agencies — 4 Years:



IT occupations dominate the list of top occupations ranked by hiring demand, with 12 of the top 20. Computer Software Engineers (Applications) has almost three times the hiring demand of the next most in-demand occupation, Marketing Managers. The occupation that showed the most growth, however, is not an IT position at all, but another hugely in-demand occupation, Registered Nurses.


Although the coverage is heavy on Silicon Valley and New York City, our Hiring Scale metrics for those cities put them both at the national average for difficulty of hire for IT positions, whereas San Francisco and Seattle both register as more difficult than average.
