Washington, D.C.’s mandatory labor law posting requirements now include a new Right to Breastfeed poster. The District of Columbia Office of Human Rights issued the poster, which states, among other things:
* A woman has a right to breastfeed her child in any public or private location “where she has the right to be with her child.”
* Employers must provide “reasonable daily unpaid break-time, as required by an employee” so employees can breastfeed.
* Employers aren’t required to provide break-time “if it would create an undue hardship on the operations of the employers.”
* Employees who feel they’ve been discriminated against may contact the District of Columbia Office of Human Rights. The poster supplies the office’s address, phone number, and website address.
The new Right to Breastfeed poster is a result of recent amendments to the 1977 District of Columbia Human Rights Act. Washington, D.C. employers must update their D.C. labor law poster to ensure they are in compliance with the new Right to Breastfeed posting requirements.
