Earth Day has come and gone. But it's never too late to think about how to reduce your use of paper and to make your company a greener place to work.
Here are a few steps HR can take to go green:
* Purchase post-consumer/recycled paper for your printers. In most cases, the quality is as good as never-before-used paper.
* Recycle your inkjet & toner cartridges. Plenty of places will accept them for recycling. Walgreens, for instance, accepts used inkjet cartridges for recycling. You can have your inkjet and toner cartridges refilled, but the ink quality can be so-so. And the software that comes with your printer will usually not alert you when the refilled cartridge is running low--creating an unpleasant surprise when you've got a big document to print right now.
* Place recycling bins all around the office, especially near mailboxes, printers, and copiers.
* If your printer has a double-sided printing feature, use it. Keep in mind double-sided print jobs take longer than single-sided ones.
* Buy eco-friendly labor law posters and other mandatory HR products. Look for products printed with soy-based inks on recycled paper. Also, be sure any products you order are shipped in recycled materials (without plastic).
