In the United States approximately 20% of people have hearing loss. Over half of this total are under the age of 50. With iPods, Bluetooth and countless other in-ear items this number is growing. Better Hearing Month is just aroung the corner in May.
There are several ways to support Better Hearing Month with your employees. You can invite a local audiologist to come in house to administer hearing exams. Provide hearing protection to your employees that work in loud environments. Add a hearing aid discount program to your benefit offering.
There are several discount and insured hearing aid programs around. The one I work with is American Hearing Benefits. AHB is offered through the only US owned and opperated hearing aid manufacturer, Starkey Laboratories. There is no premium (to you or your employees) to offer the AHB discount program. The benefits are available to all of your employees and their families, including parents and grandparents. Benefits include free hearing exams and 50-60% off the purchase of qualified hearing aids. There are more than 2000 providers across the US in the AHB network. For more information go to www.americanhearingbenefits.com and click on the "offer benefits" tab or call 866-925-1287.
