    Should you Deck the Office Halls with Holly this Christmas?


    It’s an uncertain economy, for sure. So is it worth the price tag to have an office party this year? Of course it is!

    A survey recently released by the Creative Group shows that a majority of marketing executives, 52%, believe it’s worth the investment, while the minority, 24% believe it’s a bad idea. The rest say their firms never have holiday celebrations.

    The main draw, according to the majority, is being able to mix and mingle with co-workers, followed closely by getting free food and entertainment. The minority said they were obliged to attend, followed by being able to network with the higher-ups.

    Generally, though, an end-of-year party allows managers to show their appreciation to workers for their hard work and loyalty throughout the year. The party need not be extravagant. Here are a few tips for creating a successful office party.

    1. Ask staff for their ideas and to suggest a location or a theme for the event.

    2. If you plan to have the party away from the office, avoid the “high season” times, like weekends in December. Think about having the party on a weekday, or in late November, or after work hours

    3. Generate a buzz by sending out periodic announcements and encourage staff to help promote the event

    4. At the event, express your appreciation by verbally thanking employees for their hard work throughout the year. Let them know how valuable they are.
