Many people sign up for Twitter accounts in connection to their jobs. In this case, who really owns your twitter account? Is it you, or is it your employer?
CNN anchor Rick Sanchez was recently dismissed for inappropriate comments he had made on air. The question that arises is, can he take his twitter account with him, or does it belong to CNN? Chances are that his tweets may have been a mix of personal and professional. Who owns the 6,457 tweets?
Perhaps companies need to have a policy in their contract to the effect of, in the event of termination the employee is to stop using the account immediately and to turn the account over to the employer, or words to that effect.
A previous CNN anchor had departed carrying her tweets and followers with her to her personal account (her own name minus "CNN" in the Twitter handle).
This makes an interesting legal issue to explore. Let's hear your opinions. If an employee quits, should they leave their tweets behind? Do share your thoughts.
