August of 2010 – This month follows one of the hottest Julys on record. It seems that the heat and humidity brings low tolerance, short tempers and our ability to transcend all things mundane. This month will be a reminder for all of us to look at our “tolerance barometer”. We see this in our interactions within our families, co-workers and in our national discourse.
We will look at a few areas where we can check our tolerance indicator and incorporate a kinder and gentler attitude towards ourselves and others.
Let us start with ourselves – What are some things you can do to begin being gentler with yourself and your interactions with others?
Some suggestions –
* Forgive yourself for making a mistake
* Give yourself time to sit and read a book
* Play with your children (or someone else’s!)
* Step out of your box and try something you have never done before.
* Volunteer at a local social services agency.
Next week we’ll look at our “Tolerance Barometer” with family and friends.
