1. MOTIVATING PEOPLE BEYOND MONEY
Thank you to Cherri Holland a New Zealand colleague who sent me a copy
of a recent article by McKinsey and Company on motivating people.
A study of 1047 managers found that noncash incentives are no less

incentives. The following list includes the highest rated financial and
non-financial incentives.

2. UNLEASHING POSITIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE
One of the recent developments in the studies of management is the field
of Postive Organizational Scholarship. It recommends that leaders
focus on four areas to improve levels of performance and contribution in
organisations. These are a positive climate, positive relationships,
positive communication and positive meaning.

5. INCREASING YOUR QUOTA OF HAPPINESS
Over the last few years there has been an increased fascination
with what people can do to increase their quota of happiness.
Martyn Newman summarises some of the key findings from the last
three decades of research. These comprise:
* Unhappier people are more likley to believe that they are at the
mercy of fate.
* Optimism and self confidence are key enablers for overcoming
adversity.
* Passionate people spend twice as much time thinking about what they've
accomplished, how achievable the task ahead is, and how capable they
are of achieve it.
* Being compassionate and kind to others leads to greater happiness.
* Once your essential needs are met, increases in income do little
to raise your level of happiness.
