SCORM: governs how online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMSs) communicate with each other. It allows lesson content to send the status of the course including score, pass/fail or complete/not complete to LMS and LMS record that information in the report section. SCORM is a powerful tool - Content can be created one time and used in many different systems and situations without modification. Contents that were developed using third party software such as flash or dreamweaver can be uploaded to LMS easily. Learning plan is no longer tied to specific learning resources, content can be modified and updated without having to lose user tracking information, because competency records are keyed to competency definitions, not to specific learning resources.
In short SCORM allows content authors to distribute their content to a variety of Learning Management Systems (LMS) with ease.
Ease of use: Test first to see if the features in the LMS are easy to navigate. Are certain screens made sense when clicked? Can users in the company use it without special training? It can save company time, money, and effort if the LMS is intuitive.
Hierarchy in departments/users: When instructors/ Administrators distribute courses to students, they should be able to have options to either distribute to the whole department, a group of students or to a single user. It takes so much time to distribute courses to one student at a time if there are hundreds of students needed training.
Support: ask about the support and setup policy. Set up LMS can challenging. It involves in setting up the company website and database.
Cost: the more expensive LMS does not mean better. Be sure to test all features that are necessary for your company’s need.
Most of the Learning Management System that I tested, a new LMS software better than most is TransELearn LMS. The layout is very nice, easy to use LMS, the price is very reasonable and the support is phenomenon. You can try it online. You can even set up their LMS at your company’s website for 30 days, even 60 days if needed. They have video instructions how to use their LMS, how to set up LMS on your website and database step by step. It is very easy to follow.
I recommend http://TransELearn.com
I definitely rate them 5 stars, well done.
