NEW?GLASGOW?– When Gerald Gabriel got back into his office on Wednesday afternoon, there was an e-mail from a young fellow with an IT background wondering how to submit a resume to a company in Pictou County.
That’s exactly the kind of reaction the Pictou Regional Development Corporation hoped to have from a new initiative it launched Tuesday in Halifax that aims to recruit workers to Pictou County.
Gabriel, who is the executive director of the PRDC, was in the city along with some of the county’s major employers for a recruitment drive aimed at luring a new generation of employees to the third most densely populated part of the province.
And the jobs will be available over the next few years, Gabriel said.

Fire department on a recruitment spree

THANE: The shortage of fire fighting personnel in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is set to ease considerably within the next couple of months. The civic administration has decided to recruit firemen in various ranks of the civic fire brigade department in the coming days to overcome the shortage of staff and officers.
Varsha Dixit, the civic Labour Officer, informed that Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre has sanctioned a proposal seeking to recruit 30 firemen to the department. Earlier, the civic chief had sanctioned the appointment of just 20 fire personnel but the number was hiked to 30 considering the demand of the department.
