According to a recent survey conducted by CareerBuilder.com, one in five US workers are going in to work late at least once a week, and one in ten go in late at least twice a week. The most common excuses are:
Getting caught in traffic
Problems with public transportation
Lack of sleep
Getting kids ready for school
Don't know what to wear
Pet issues
But outrageous excuses were collected as well. For instance, one person said he had to take a second shower after walking into a spider's web. Another said her husband thought it was fun to hide her car keys. And yet another said his car's left-turn signal got broken, so he made all right turns to drive to work.
The survey was taken among 3,259 hiring managers and human resource professionals, and 8,038 full-time workers from November 12 to December 1, 2008.
