2009 Payroll Software Updates to Include Stimulus Tax Credit
    Nancy Walters
The Making Work Pay tax credit is part of $787 billion federal stimulus package, and provides credit of up to $400 per person ($800 per family) against their 2009 and 2010 taxes. The IRS has released new payroll withholding tables and is asking employers to apply the new payroll computations as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2009. In order to help small business owners, accountants and payroll service providers comply with the new regulations, Payroll Mate has been updated to include the new Federal withholding tables. In addition the 2009 Payroll Software will be updated to include the new form 941 (Employer's Quarterly Tax Return), reflecting the change for employer COBRA subsidies enacted by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Payroll Mate has a dedicated page for the stimulus package payroll tax changes and how it can impact businesses.

"All existing users of Payroll Mate 2009 will get the new payroll updates for free. The software maker is also advising small businesses who are still doing payroll by hand to start using a payroll software solution, which offers serious benefits, from increased payroll preparation efficiency to tangible cost savings."
