I am working in a Security Company where expatriates form about 90% of management team. There is nothing like career training, training and development, welfare services and salaries are very meagre.Apart from that there traces of job mismatch and job overload on each staff. There is not a single person who doesn’t complain about his/her job with the company. Those who have the skills are always looking somewhere for better services. Thus we are having a very high turnover. We are more than 6000 staff in Ghana and not less than 50 staff leaves the work every month. Can you suggest something which could help us solve the problem?
For instance there is no mechanism to assist staff in difficulties. We use to give them salary advance but now the new management has suspended it due to the high turn over. Apart from this when a staff is deceased the family would be given $200, when a staff loses his wife or one of his children he would be entitled to $100 and in the case of parent he would be given 20 cent. These are not enough so they always come back for the company’s assistance which is not given. They are complaining about their rent, school fees, medicals etc.
I want to suggest an institution of staff benevolent fund where each staff would contribute 50 cent every month. The Company too would contribute it’s quota since th fund would relieve him of the welfare responsibilities. This fund would be used to assist employees (funeral grants,medicals,rent and school fees)Because we are leaving in a low income country, I know most of the staff would deliberately forged such difficulties. I would be asked to bring a policy concerning this fund that is how we would managed it.
