I recently developed "state of the department" document for presentation to our physician owners. I think everything on here is pretty much universal. Anyone have anything to add?
Our Mission
To provide comprehensive, compassionate care that enhances the lives of patients and their families.
Our Values
• Patients first
• Treat others with respect and compassion
• Open and timely communication
• Commitment to research
• Invest in personal and professional development
• Take ownership in our practice
• Positive attitude
Goals
• Move from compliance to commitment
• Move from “burnout” to full engagement
• Passion/enthusiasm
• Ethical
• Optimism
• Embrace change = evolution = growth = improvement ---- fights complacency, energizes
• Tolerance/embrace diversity
What do our employees want from “us?” (fulfilling their “needs” allows us to attract and retain the best talent)
• Flexibility
• Opportunity
• Recognition
• Development
• Security
• Support (physical and mental well-being – benefits, etc.)
• Talent Integrity – similar attitudes, “all pulling on the same oar”
• Communication
• Friendliness
The “Trust Model” encompasses a “great place to work:”
• Credibility
• Respect
• Fairness
• Pride
• Camaraderie
Misc.
• People will rise to the level of expectations you set for them – expect a lot and get a lot
• Phlegmatic reaction to crisis
• Avoid the “blame game” (the tendency/readiness to assign responsibility for a misdeed) – we want “problem solvers” instead
• Employees live our culture and brand – brand involves all employees – they must “walk the talk” – leverage for recruiting – become an “Employer of Choice”
These are “Universal Truths” regarding a company’s “human resources” (people). Where are we now? Where do we want to be? How do we get there?
Where are we now? Where do we want to be? How do we get there?
Mark, you've done this before haven't you?
