    Skyrocketing Gas Prices - What's an HR Professional To Do?

    The high gas prices have already added to an unstable U.S. economy. Employees are now struggling with high gas prices for their commutes to get to and from the office or place of work.

    HR Managers and Business Managers are and/or will stuggle with employees trying to make ends meet outside of the work place or quitting their present position to seek employment closer to home.

    Some suggestions for employers to try to remedy this for employees are available. Here are a few to use to help keep much needed employees and increase productivity:

    1). Institute a 4 day work week if possible. Give employees the option to work 4-10 hour days to save on commuting the extra day.

    2). Have an "Employee of the Month" the winner receives a $50 gas card. Use a list of criterion that would constitute the employee of the month and have the work peer group vote for the best candidate.

    3). If the employee has superior work ethic and attendance offer a day or two off with pay the month following the superior attendance and superior work eithic displayed.


    These are merely suggestions for use and may not work in every office environment.
