    Hospitality in Recruitment

    This past weekend I picked up the book by restaurateur Danny Meyer, Setting the Table.The book reflects on Mr. Meyer´s success in what many argue is one of the most difficult of vocations. One of his guiding principles that may serve those in recruitment well is that winning a customer over is best done through exemplary hospitality.

    As you reflect on the excerpt below, think of whether your recruitment process is hospitable to the candidate. Because just like the guest at the restaurant, anything less than a great experience can have a detrimental effect on your brand.

    "Understanding the distinction between service and hospitality has been the foundation of our success. Service is the technical delivery of a product. Hospitality is how the delivery of that product makes the recipient feel. Service is a monologue - we decide how we do things and set our own standards for service. Hospitality, on the other hand, is a dialogue. To be on a guest´s side requires listening to that person with every sense, and following up with a thoughtful, gracious, appropriate response. It takes both great service and great hospitality to rise to the top."
