There are many aspects of relocation that companies must consider and plan for when developing their policies and programs. As the greatest asset to any organization, it is the employee´s whose experience companies are most concerned with when it comes to those considerations and plans. The movement of household goods is no different. In fact, an employee´s experience with the transport of their household goods (HHG) can have a profound effect since their overall perception of the relocation itself since it impacts personal property.

Moving across the street or even across state lines is one thing. But what about when the move is international? Then, the company and employee are no longer just dealing with the basics of packing, storage, and van line coordination. The scope increases and further considerations have to come into play such as safety and security issues, and rules set forth by international bodies of regulation.

Here, we examine these additional considerations that must be taken into account when planning and preparing relocating employees for the international movement of HHG. Included is a detailed look at issues surrounding HHG transportation across borders as well as new stipulations from Homeland Security and the FDA regarding wood importation restrictions.
