Every once in a while I´ll come across an article that gives me a jolt. Either good...like a great cup of java...or bad...like a wet finger in the light socket. While reading the Boston Globe this morning I experienced a good jolt. The first line of the article read... "Governor Mitt Romney signed a bill yesterday easing the tax burden for disabled veterans and the families of those killed or missing in action." I´ve included the news brief in its entirety below because it is a "feel good" article. Simply put - someone doing something for someone because it is the right thing to do.
As you read the news brief below ask yourself if your company is doing all it can to hire disabled veterans and recognized those veterans you currently employ. It might just give you a jolt.
Boston Globe New England in Brief Tuesday August 15, 2006
"Governor Mitt Romney signed a bill yesterday easing the tax burden for disabled veterans and the families of those killed or missing in action. Property tax benefits for disabled veterans now range from $250 to $950 per year, depending on the disability. Under the new law, those property tax exemptions will range from $400 to $1500 annually. The new law also gives the surviving spouses of veterans killed since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, a full exemption from property taxes for five years. After that, a $2500 exemption will be granted for each year."
