Getting Extraordinary Results From Ordinary People
    Bee22 Pianezza

People want to be part of something important, a cause, something bigger than they are. Understanding the larger meaning behind what your company does is a key step to finding and recruiting people who love their work. ... The only way that you can truly have faith that it´s possible to recruit employees who love their work is first by making sure you see the value and meaning behind what you do and the company you do it for. ... However mundane it may be, if there´s a market for your business, it´s filling a human need somewhere along the line. ...

If you don´t find a way to attach compelling meaning to the nature of your company´s business, you won´t be able to attract and recruit those self-perpetuating, fueled-on-passion employees who commit extraordinary acts every day. First you have to believe you can, and that simple step requires a huge cognitive leap away from the commonly held assumptions that work is hell and employees must be aggressively managed and motivated in order to do that work.

Identify and attach that intrinsic value of what your company does-and what your employees do within it-to your workplace environment and you will have a workplace of independent, creative, passionate, and dedicated employees who are capable of achieving extraordinary results on a daily basis. At Yahoo! our employees believe that what they do every day can help define the future of the Internet, and that our work will be viewed by millions of people worldwide who use Yahoo! every day. In effect, we can change the world.

As we continue moving into the 21st century, we must make our workplaces a celebration of the passion and effort that comes from all our employees.
