A (very) middle-aged guy, I’ve been thinking about the future of work since the distant past of work. To get from then to now, I’ve swum many lanes in human capital management-except that of the practitioner, which I’ve never been. To be honest, my hat is off to all HR practitioners. Why? I don’t think I could do what you do. The work is complicated, at times tedious, especially with terrible (or no) technology in place for it.
In my defense, however, I’ve observed HCM closely for nearly two decades, peering in from just outside the practitioner’s court. Many years ago, for example, I was an industry journalist covering HCM technology. Later, I was an HCM industry analyst. In between, and most scandalously, I worked from the inside at three vendors among the best known in cloud software for HCM—in sales enablement, product marketing and content.
You could say that I’ve been around the proverbial block, and it makes my charter here all the more exciting. The breadth of my experience deeply informs my work helping-and, yes, observing-all of you as the executive lead for HR.com’s “Future of Payroll and Workforce Management” online community.
