The contingent workforce is extensive, with the vast majority (91%) of organizations using some type of temporary or contingent workers for some portion of their workforce.  Amid continued economic and political uncertainty, companies may turn even more to a gig workforce as an agile and reactive approach to staffing and leveraging skills becomes more common.

The free research report, The State of the Free Agent Nation and Contingent Workforce 2020, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to better understand how organizations acquire and manage the contingent workforce.

This gig economy is here to stay as half of HR professionals expect their proportion of contingent workers to grow (50%) or stay the same (40%) over the next three years.  Further results from the study indicate that organizations that are good or excellent at acquiring and managing contingent workers are also more likely than others to maintain a nimble and versatile business model and to involve HR to a higher degree in the hiring of contingent workers.

“At times of change and uncertainty like this, organizations often turn to contingent work arrangements,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com.  “HR will need to step up to ensure strategies are in place to meet the demand for skills as they manage a nimble and agile workforce.”
