    Team Building and Affiliation

In 2000, when we started building our pyramid of organizational behaviors at The Loyalty Institute, we found that Affiliation was a key driver of employee commitment. In particular, the #1 driver in the U.S. as well as in other countries was the organization’s efforts to build a sense of spirit and pride.

    Engagement is an Inside Job
When faced with major organizational problems, managers often hire consultants to help provide a solution. As a company that does a lot of this kind of work, we don't find the practice objectionable! What saddens us is how frequently the ideas that most excite managers are ones that have existed inside the organization for years. Yet managers are often hearing them for the first time. Or they are finally paying attention.

    Are Leaders Born Or Made?

As Kurt Russell said in the movie "Miracle" — You think you can win on talent alone… Gentlemen you don’t have enough talent to win on talent alone. The same is true about leaders today. Talent alone is not enough.

How Not to Make a Prospecting Call

Tell tale signs of cold propecting calls are the age-old sales ploy of sending something so I am familiar with her, then call on a ‘warm’ cold call, and then lure in on the strength of the offering… not to mention the old Dale Carnegie ploy of using the person’s name a lot.  They don't work!

It won't cost a penny for these thoughts ... enjoy these blog submissions currently featured on HR.com.

    > My search for Shangri-La; Employee Retention – Simplified

In a 1933 novel, “Lost Horizon” by British author, James Hilton, “Shangri-La” is being portrait as a mystical and harmonious valley; an earthly paradise; a Himalayan utopia; and a permanently happy land. In a week, there’s 168 hours. Let’s just assume that we’re put in about 50 hours of work a week and we clock a healthy 56 hours of sleep a week. That would mean we spend about 44.6% of our conscious life at work! So shouldn't we be doing something we love or at least don't hate?

    > Tactical Transparency - Summary

Customers and investors demand much from modern companies. They require absolute integrity, full disclosure of financials and business practices, and dialogue with company managers, and in the age of social media they have the power to police those companies and spread the “buzz” about them, both positive and negative. In Tactical Transparency, Shel Holtz and John C. Havens write that businesses have the power to turn this demand for transparency into a strength.
